Privacy
The short version: this site has no accounts, no advertising and no tracking across other sites. The only personal information involved is your email address if you choose to subscribe, and whatever you send us by email.
What this site collects
- No accounts, forms or comments. You cannot log in, and nothing you do on a page is tied to your name.
- No cookies set by us. The site's own code does not set cookies.
- Search stays on your device. The search bar looks through files already loaded in your browser. What you type is not sent anywhere.
- Your comparison date. If you change the "Compare today with" setting, the choice is kept in your browser's session storage so it carries between pages. It is erased when you close the tab.
Services this site relies on
- Cloudflare delivers the pages. Like any web host it processes your IP address and basic request details to send you the page and to block abuse, and it may set a short-lived security cookie to tell people from automated traffic. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views so we know which pages are read. It loads a small script from Cloudflare, uses no cookies or browser storage, does not fingerprint visitors and does not follow you to other sites.
- Fonts, scripts and data files are served from this site. Apart from Cloudflare, reading a page contacts no other company: no Google services and no advertising networks.
- Links to other sites, including news articles, government sources and our social media pages, take you to services with their own policies.
The email newsletter
- The newsletter is run on Substack. The sign-up form loads from Substack only when you choose to open it.
- If you subscribe, Substack collects your email address, sends the emails and, for paid subscriptions, handles payment. We never see card details. See Substack's privacy policy.
- We can see subscribers' email addresses and basic delivery statistics in Substack. We use them only to send the newsletter and understand what readers open.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link.
If you email us
We keep your message and address so we can reply and track corrections. We do not add you to any list.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not run advertising or advertising trackers.
- We do not build profiles of visitors or track you across other websites. Because of that, the site behaves the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
- If any of this changes, for example if the site adds sponsors or advertising, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
